How TechRadar’s finding the best Sprint phone for you

We’ve scoured the phones Sprint offers, analyzing just about every single one and balancing the value of what the phone offers with the price Sprint is charging. As with all of our reviews, we disregarded any potential personal preferences/biases for specific operating systems like Android, iOS and Windows.

In most cases, if not all, the phone will be available through an lease plan that lets you pay a reduced amount for the phone over the course of 18 months. To keep the phone, you’ll be required to pay off the remaining balance of the retail price or Sprint will offer the option to trade in your phone and upgrade to a new one partway through the lease. We’ll include the monthly payments as well as the full cost of the phone so you know exactly what you’re in for when you buy one of these phones.

How to choose the best Sprint phones for you

With Sprint’s leasing plan, you may be tempted to forget all about owning your phone. Since Sprint will allow you to upgrade most phones after 12 payments of the lease, you can keep getting new phones every year without ever paying full price for the phones

If you’re someone that likes to always have the latest phone, this leasing and upgrading option will probably be great for you, as you’ll often being paying only about half the price of the phone before you get to upgrade to a new one. However, if you like to get one phone and stick with it for a few years, know that you’ll eventually have to cover the full price of the phone before you get to say it’s truly yours. Until the full retail price is paid, it’s still a leased phone.

Best of the best: Samsung Galaxy Note 8

When Samsung launches a new phone, it’s hard to find another phone on the market that can compete. And the Galaxy Note 8 is the latest from Samsung, and as such, it’s easily standing at the top of the pack. With a super sharp 6.3-inch screen curved at the edges, the latest Snapdragon chipset, ample internal storage expandable with a MicroSD card and two killer cameras on the back, it’s a true powerhouse phone. It can even take a splash in water. It may have a high monthly price, and full retail is $960 from Sprint, but it’s the best phone out there. Customers switching to Sprint from another carrier may even save 50% on the monthly price thanks to a deal going on right now.

Best Apple Phone: iPhone 7

It wouldn’t be a stretch to say an iPhone is a good phone, as long as it’s the latest. Though the iPhone 7 is almost a year old, it’s still a solid device. The iPhone 7 Plus may have some advantages thanks to a bigger screen and dual-camera system on the back, but the iPhone 7 comes at a lower price, giving it the value advantage. The full retail price for the iPhone 7 is $649, but customers activating two lines can get a second iPhone 7 lease for free right.

It’s worth noting that Apple’s iPhone 8 is expected very soon, and anyone shopping for a new iPhone should wait until after the launch to buy one. If you want the latest iPhone wait. If you can get by on an older model, waiting will help you score the older iPhone at a reduced price.

Best Android phone: HTC U11

Samsung already holds the top spot on this list, so we decided to shine the light on another great Android device many might overlook. Some of us may have forgotten, but HTC still knows how to make a great phone, and the HTC U11 serves as proof. It comes packing the latest Snapdragon chipset, has 64GB of storage in the base model, packs a big battery and has a crisp 5.5-inch QHD display. For audiophiles, it will really shine, though you’ll need to use a dongle for headphones requiring a 3.5mm jack. Full retail on the HTC U11 is $696, but you can add $5 per month to the lease price for the option to upgrade after 12 months.

Best value phone: Samsung Galaxy S8

The iPhone SE often holds this spot, but Sprint’s lease price for the Galaxy S8 is just over $15 a month, making it a bit of a steal, and the Galaxy S8 blows the iPhone SE out of the water. It may be the little brother to the Galaxy Note 8, but the Galaxy S8 packs a lot of the same power. The retail price may still be $750 for anyone who wants to keep the phone, which isn’t great considering Amazon frequently has a way better deal on the Galaxy S8, but it has a great lease price for anyone who thinks they’ll want to upgrade after 12 months.
