LOGAN SQUARE — Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa (35th) is cracking down on messy businesses along the Milwaukee Avenue corridor in Logan Square, saying they must clean their premises or risk costly fines.
Last year, several businesses along the stretch either received warnings or tickets when the alderman’s office reached out to warn them about cleaning up their sidewalks and outside area.
That includes keeping sidewalks free of litter and weeds, removing snow and ice in front of or adjacent to all buildings, keeping dumpster areas tidy and properly labeled, using and maintaining a clean grease box and sealing burrows and dock areas to maintain rodent control.
Most tickets cost between $300-500, but some are higher, depending on the violation. (See the short list of violations below.)
This week, the alderman is hosting a private meeting with businesses to reinforce the city’s code. The ward superintendent will be there to take questions.
Anyone with questions about the city’s code is encouraged to reach out to Irene Romulo, the alderman’s’ constituent service director, at 773-887-3772.
