RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA – March 30, 2017 – In keeping with their goals of education and cross-cultural collaboration between Japan and the United States, Animazement has invited Japanese astronaut Sōichi Noguchi to appear at their Memorial Day weekend convention.
Noguchi was selected to be an astronaut candidate by the National Space Development Agency of Japan (currently Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, or JAXA) in 1996. He has since trained with NASA at Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, as well as at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Russia. He was a crew member for the STS-114 mission aboard the space shuttle Discovery, and has served on multiple missions aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Noguchi has logged a total of 177 days, 3 hours, and 5 minutes in space. He is currently the Chief of the JAXA Astronaut Group and was elected president of the Association of Space Explorers in 2014.
2017 is Animazement’s 20th anniversary, and they are currently still in the process of announcing guests and events for this milestone convention.
