Yooka-Laylee presents vast, vibrant worlds begging to be explored. But, sometimes collectibles can become confusing to reach and complicated to understand. Here are 6 things Yooka-Laylee doesn’t tell you.
In each world you will find Trowzer…the snake. He sells you specials move for the price of quills. The moves he sells are specific to each world. Because so many Pagies are locked behind these moves, it is very smart to buy these moves as soon as you can. Think of it like a snowball effect. The more quills you get the more moves you can buy. The more moves you have, the more access you have to hidden quills and pagies. To get this ball rolling faster and sooner, buy moves as soon as you can!
Each time you purchase a move from Trowzer, he will tell you what the move does. However, he never tells you the full extent of a move’s potential. Most of the special moves you learn have more than one use. For example, after learning the Sonar Shot in the first world, you can now reveal hidden platforms. But, you can also use this move to reveal the blue Ghost Writer in each world. Experiment with each move to see the extent of its power.
Each new world presents dozens more collectibles and characters. However, you might reach a point where you have no easy Pagies to collect. If that’s the case, and you have learned the moves from this new world, don’t be afraid to retrace your steps in a previous world. Take your newfound powers and apply them to puzzles or races you were previously locked out of.
One of the distinct features Yooka-Laylee offers is the ability to expand each world. These expansions mostly offer grand additions to the worlds, offering a great return on the Pagie investment. Especially early on in the game, expanding the worlds early can prevent frustrations that may come from not knowing where to go next.
Each world offers a helpful transformation. Once you collect a mollycool and talk to Dr. Puzz, Yooka and Laylee can transform into a variety of combinations. These transformations are helpful for solving various puzzles throughout the game. Sometimes, however, the transformation overstays its welcome. If you are trying to change back to normal Yooka-Laylee, simply how down the button traditionally used for rolling and the transformation will cease.
Each of Yooka-Laylee’s world boast 200 quills, 25 Pagies, 5 Ghost Writers, and more. If you don’t plan on finding every collectible in the game, you might want to know how to pace yourself. Should you get the bare minimum Pagies required to unlock the next world? Should you spend hours scouring every inch of the world before going to the next? Obviously, you can take either route. But, keep in mind that you will need to have collected 100 Pagies in total (including the ones you spent to unlock or expand worlds) to take on the final boss. So, if you plan on completing the game, it might pay off to stay awhile before moving on to the next world.
